Weir Mill.

A once-abandoned cotton mill beneath Stockport's viaduct, now restored as a riverside neighbourhood.

Restored · public spaces

THE STORY

Dating to 1790, Weir Mill is a Grade II-listed former cotton mill beside the River Mersey. Its brick buildings and setting beneath the railway viaduct make it one of Stockport's distinctive pieces of industrial heritage.

Stockport MDC announced the scheme's completion on 30 September 2026. The restoration combines 253 homes with public spaces and commercial premises, retaining industrial details including brickwork and cast-iron features. It is now a regeneration story rather than a current abandoned-building destination.
