A love letter to forgotten places. And a little respect for what’s still there.
01 / OUR PATCH
Stockport & beyond
This independent guide brings together documented places in Stockport, Marple, Romiley and the nearby Manchester fringe. It covers abandoned-site reports, historic ruins and industrial buildings with a new life.
We research published sources, link the originals and distinguish historical reports from current visitor access. The first research pass was completed on 24 October 2026.
02 / READ THE LABELS
History moves on
Historical report means someone documented a place in the past. Converted / redevelopment means it has a new use or works are reported. Public heritage / visitor attraction means there is an established way to experience it; check the official source first.
Labels do not promise unrestricted entry, safety or opening hours. Missing current information is stated on the listing.
03 / THE EXPLORER’S CODE
Leave the story intact
Seek permission for private land and interiors. Respect fences, closures and residents. Leave objects where they are, don’t add graffiti and don’t share ways around security. Derelict structures can be unstable; enjoy public viewpoints when access is uncertain.
Photograph thoughtfully. Avoid identifiable people, personal belongings, vehicle registrations and precise entry points in contributions.
04 / MADE BY THE COMMUNITY
Share what you know
Submit a location, approximate area, observations, a source and an optional photograph you own. No account is needed. Contributions are emailed to Mason for review; nothing is published automatically.
An optional reply email is shared only with the reviewer. FormSubmit processes email delivery and retains submission text for up to 30 days. A private copy of the location details and photograph is kept for review. To correct or withdraw a contribution, send another note quoting its reference.
The home-page mill is an AI-generated atmospheric illustration, not a photograph of a listed location. Real location photographs carry their source, author and licence on the location page. Written summaries are original; references link to the published sources.
