Shaw Heath / Historic buildings

St Thomas' Hospital.

A familiar Stockport urbex archive location now being transformed into St Thomas Gardens.

Redevelopment under way

THE STORY

The former St Thomas' Hospital is a Grade II-listed site in Shaw Heath. Its years of dereliction made it a recurring subject of urban-exploration photography, including a report of a 2020 visit published in February 2021.

Stockport Council announced the start of redevelopment in November 2024 after more than 15 years of dereliction. Its St Thomas Gardens scheme includes 68 affordable homes and an 82-bed care facility. Old interior photographs belong to the site's history and should not be read as a description of today's access.
